SYNOPSIS:
Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye
Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye
Before Carmella D’Agostino’s older sister Francesca died,
she worked at the bakery and wrote songs, but now she writes lists. Lists
like ten reasons why it's her fault Francesca's dead, or five reasons why she
should try and win Howie back, or one reason why she needs to stop lying to
everyone, including herself.
Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye is an
extraordinary novel about one family’s struggle to make sense of their world
after losing a family member to addiction. Through sixteen-year-old Carmella’s
eyes, we witness the courage and strength it takes to overcome the consequences
of grief, guilt and co-dependency.
With conviction and determination, Carmella shows us what
can happen when we’re open to love, feel the pain of our loss, and have the
courage to accept the truth of our lives.

Wish I Could Have said Goodbye is an extraordinary first novel about one family’s struggle to make sense of their world after losing someone they love to addiction. Shari A. Brady skillfully takes the reader on a journey and through Carmella’s eyes we witness the guilt, pain and courage it takes to overcome the consequences of co-dependency. It is truly a heart-breaking novel about what happens when love, loss and truth collide.

My Review:
I received a Copy of this book from the author for purpose of honest review for the IOB Tours. I was not compensated for the review, and the review is honest and my responsibility.
I really enjoyed this book, even if I did shed a number of
tears. I can see that this book would be
very helpful for parents to read and share with their high school age
children. I know that dealing with the
social pressures of drugs and peer pressures can be very hard.
I fell in love with Carmella who is the main focus of this
story. Her older sister/best friend
Francesca dies from an drug overdose. Carmella
feels it is her fault because she did not tell her parents and she did not
attend an AA meeting with her sister. Her parents are afraid that if they do not watch and control everything that Carmella does the same thing may happen to her. Which leads to Carmella lying about what she is doing and who she is going out with. Her parents argue a lot and turn to work and the church for their answers. They try in their own way to help Carmella deal with her grief and maybe should have listened and let her explain her hurt.
Along with the sadness there is also a love story. Carmella first true love, but she is afraid to tell her parents and afraid of her feelings. Howie the boy she is dating is a nice boy and only wants to see Carmella happy.
Once I started reading the book I could not put it down - it was well written. I can't wait to see what Shari Brady writes next. I am sure anyone would like this book.
